Workshops

2017     November 23rd

Stages of Production Design at the National Theatre

Co-presenter

Working with designer Natasha Jenkins, I co-presented an evening workshop on the stages of design and lead a model making session with students ages 16-21. Students began with sketches of ideas based on the NT’s production of Everyman, and finished the evening with a complete ‘sketch’ model of their designs.

2017     January 16-26

Set design workshop

Working with Clonter Opera Theatre, I travelled to several schools around Cheshire to assist in delivering set design workshops to 6-10 year olds in groups of 20-95.

My responsibilities included:

- Encouraging and assisting the children to sketch ideas for a scenic backdrop based on a chosen topic

- Helping them to cut out shapes and arrange a composition to be lit and photographed

- Overseeing them to create a 1:25 scale set model with geometric shapes, and recreating it full-scale

- Assessing their finished designs and giving them constructive feedback

February 28- March 3; March 13-16

Costume design workshop

Again working with Clonter Opera, I presented design workshops with groups of 20-60 children.

My responsibilities included:

- Presenting the idea of costume design and explaining the role a designer plays in a production

- Overseeing the children in creating costume design drawing, encouraging them to use critical thinking about character to come up with their designs

- Overseeing the children in cutting out paper patterns to make clothes for mannequins of their designs

- Assessing their finished designs and giving them constructive feedback
